After practicing web development flavored search engine optimization by trial and error for a few years, Jill Whalen’s High Rankings Forum was one of the first Forums I started interacting with. Before that, I had been following Jill’s threads at Kim Krause’s Cre8asite Forum. When Kim announced Jill was starting her own Forum, I made sure to sign up. The High Rankings forum now has well over 7,000 members.
Jill is known for her practical and straight forward communication style. She has always promoted long term, content driven optimization tactics rather than quick fix manipulations. The response to her common sense style is impressive. Her High Rankings Advisor email newsletter is now delivered to nearly 20,000 readers.
Unlike a lot of big SEO companies who tout their awards, company size, blah, etc, her site has ranked first page for phrases like “search engine optimization” and “search engine marketing” on Google for as long as I can remember. Those results speak for themselves.
At the last Search Engine Strategies conference in San Jose, Chris Pirillo conducted an interview with Jill where she talks about starting out in search engine optimization long before Google existed and about her newest initiative, Search Creative.
Jill is going to be here in Minneapolis this week doing some consulting with a local company so it will be fun to catch up with her and talk some SEO shop.
