K (ksblog) quoted vineyard owner Courtney Kingston: “When you come to a crossroads, whatever you do, just don’t stop. Go right, go left, go straight. Whatever way you go…go forward.”
K then went on to quote a mentor of hers: “Making no decision IS making a decision. It’s making a decision not to take action.”
Let me take it a step farther. I’m reminded of Alice in Wonderland when she reached a fork in the road. She asked the owl which way she should go. When she said she wasn’t sure, the owl (wisely, of course) advised her that if she didn’t know where she was going, it didn’t matter which way she went.
If you have prioritized your objectives, when you reach a crossroads, the good decision will be the one that takes you in the general direction of your objectives. I would even advise against starting down the entrepreneurial road until you have listed and prioritized your business objectives.
And at the crossroads — yes, there will invariably be some — don’t forget to pause long enough to be sure there isn’t a big-rig barreling through at high speed! Then, if you don’t need to, don’t stop!
