After my first pass over the material, I would have to say it looks generally very good. I did notice that the presentations were overwhelmingly in the subjects areas of Affiliate Marketing. I would say about 2 out of every 3 presentations had something to do with that subject matter. Don’t get me wrong – I think Affiliate Marketing is a tremendously important aspect of any online business. However, I would have liked to see a little more diversity in the subject matter. After all, when it comes to the many aspects of e-commerce, there is a lot more to discuss that Affiliate Marketing.
The other thing I noticed was that the presentation playbacks did not include the Q & A sessions. The only way you could hear the Q & A was to ‘attend’ the ‘original scheduled run’ of the presentation. One thing I’ve noticed about trade shows in the past is that the presentation material is prepared well in advance and often is so general or basic that it isn’t that informative. The real ‘good stuff’ often comes out of the audience participation in those kinds of events. So I think that by leaving this portion out of the playback, the organizers of ECom Expo have diminished the value somewhat.
Those were two things I would like to see changed in the future and I’ve emailed the organizers accordingly. But having said that, this was still a tremendously high quality event featuring such industry luminaries as Seth Godin, Declan Dunn, Andy Beal, and many others. I’ll be looking forward to the 2006 event. But for the next few weeks, I have a lot of playbacks to view.
