This week on Allbusiness my blog will focus on women in business and their reflections on how small business has done under the present administration.
Lorrie Thomas, CEO of Web Marketing Therapy, states that while she expects her business to thrive despite who is in office because she is dedicated to providing value and being true to her values, she adds, “The Obama Administration is working to inspire and empower small business owners in ways far beyond encouraging lenders to make more money available to entrepreneurs.”
Lorrie, whose business assists others with their marketing problems, says that money does not build, brand and boost business. Creativity and innovation does.”The Obama campaign embodied creativity and innovation, giving us hope – small businesses are in a new administrative era where we have hope. We see tremendous opportunity, positive change and feel empowered via positive leadership to strive for a healthier, wealthier future.”
Lorrie believes Obama’s use of technology has also helped bring him to the people. By utilizing Facebook, You Tube, and the Internet in general, Obama has reached out to people with a tool that most people are now using.
Says Lorrie, “The internet solidified his business of the presidency and continues to build his connection with the people to serve them, support them and sell them on his ability. Small businesses can use the web in the exact same way, specific to their business. The web allows us to have direct conversations, create community, share, build trust and build relationships. Relationships are what small business owners need to build business and I am seeing smart small business owners use similar tactics that our administration used to campaign and serve people.”
I asked Lorrie if she feels small business is strong under the current administration, and her answer was one we should all consider. “The business climate is always strong, regardless of our administration IF organizations are willing to listen to their market, observe trends, adapt to change and grow intelligently. ” Despite what is going on ‘out there’, we must remember to look at how that affects our small businesses and then make changes to accommodate this.
However, adds Lorrie, “I am always more inspired when there is great leadership and the class, courage and dedication of the Obama administration does make me want to work smarter, harder and make a meaningful contribution through my company.”
And when we feel inspired, we tend to work even harder.
