It’s a given that if you can get other businesses to link to your website that your site will increase in popularity in the search engines. But linking haphazardly or not following directions can do more harm than good.
That’s something I see played out every day at the Small Business Blog Directory. The blog directory is focused on:
Any blog that provides tips, tactics, strategies, or ideas to help small business owners and entrepreneurs, and solo professionals. Topics can be marketing ideas, customer service, operations and management, leadership — any category that we have listed in the directory.
Sounds pretty clear, huh? Well not to some folks. Daily we get blog submissions for magic cures for whatever ails you and a number of other topics. Do people not see this is a waste of time? The blog directory instructions clearly state that only business blogs will be accepted and that the directory is human edited and still some folks waste their time submitting trash in the spirit of trying to get a link back to their site. They’ve wasted their time and ours.
Do yourself a favor. If you’re the type who rushes into something without reading the directions first, save yourself some time and effort and read the directions first. You’ll be glad you did. And if you happen to write a blog that serves the small business market, take a moment and submit your blog to the small business blog directory.
