This week has been super busy for me. I’ve spent my nights working until as late as 1:30, and I’ve gotten up at my normal 5-5:30 each morning. Needless to say, I’ve been pretty exhausted, and when I was supposed to wake and run yesterday morning I decided instead to sleep in a few more minutes.
Feeling guilty, I dropped my oldest off for her last day of preschool (about which I will post this weekend-where did that year go?!), took the youngest home, dropped her in the stroller and off we went.
Luckily she enjoys riding in the stroller, which my oldest never did, and so we toured the neighborhood while I ran, and I pointed out birds and cars and other neat things that a year and a half old will love.
We stopped at a little park after I had done a few miles and I let my daughter out. I decided since I had cut my workout a little short to enjoy the time at the park with her and combine it with some exercises. Then I thought, if moms want to work out and don’t know how to fit in the time, what a great place to do it!
So today I’m going to share some ideas with those of you who are young enough to have kids that enjoy the park and who have some time in the day to break away from the workload and take the kids there.
Sprints. I used the time at the park to sprint from one point to the other. We chased birds. My daughter thought this was hysterical, and so did I. The birds, not so much (and I’m such an animal lover that i actually felt sorry for them lol).
Lunges. While my daughter raced around the playground I went after her doing lunges. When she hid behind the slide, I did squats trying to find her.
Crunches. I did these while she played on the equipment in between the chasing, sliding and swinging.
The joy of it all, of course, was that we also had a great time playing together. I guess my thoughts yesterday were that with such a hectic schedule right now, there are still ways in which I can fit in a fairly good workout. Of course, it wasn’t like my regular workouts, so I have to make it a point to continue to get up in the morning and run or workout before the kids wake, but from time to time it’s nice to know that if I need to expend a bit of energy I can do so while doing something that I really love: Playing in the park with the kids.
Have a great weekend, Super Moms!
