Earlier this week, Yahoo! announced that they were updating their main page. There are significant improvements in this newly designed page. But, I have to ask “where are the auctions?”.
Trying to find Auctions on the new Yahoo! page is kind of like ‘Where’s Waldo’ (remember that?) in which the objective was to find the character (Waldo) hidden within detailed pictures or crowds of people. Actually in Yahoo’s case, Auctions aren’t there. You now have to click “All Yahoo! Services” to have a floating menu appear which then features a link to the Auction page (along with all their other services). Formerly, there was a direct link at the bottom of the main page to Auctions.
Last fall, I posted this blog entry about the direction that Yahoo! Auctions seemed to be taking at the time. Now their direction seems even more clear. If Yahoo! will no longer have a direct link to their Auction site from their home page, we can certainly infer something about their level commitment to growing that particular service.
As much as I love selling on eBay as part of my home-based business, I often wish that eBay had some stronger competition. It’s beginning to look like that competition isn’t going to come from Yahoo! Or is it? I’ve also been hearing some (unsubstantiated) buzz that eBay will perhaps be acquired by one of the large Search Engines (which would include Yahoo!) Hmmm…YahooBay?
What are your thoughts on Yahoo’s new home page or Yahoo! Auctions?
