Any inventors out there? Effective October 2, 2008, the U.S. Patent Office is increasing the fees for small entities (fewer than 500 employees) to file for a patent. They are going to an a la carte fee structure. Whereas the filing fee for small entities today is $395, the new fees are $165 to file, $270 for a Search fee and $110 for the Examination fee. To me, this computes to $545, but my resource on this is Business Opportunities Weblog (citing IPWatchdog), and they report the total will be $540. Any way you look at it, it will cost more to file for a U.S. Patent starting in just a few days.
