The $14 million, 122 room, GAIA Anderson Hotel & Spa opened last month in American Canyon, California, and was able to attain its gold LEEDS certification. They’ve utilized solar throughout the hotel, using Solatube tubular skylights throughout the hotel. A full 90% of the wood used in construction was certified sustainable and sourced locally. The project achieved a water use reduction of about 40%, with even the Koi pond using recycled water. Newspapers aren’t delivered to the rooms, but they are available in the lobby if a guest wants to read them. Gone are the tiny soaps and bottles, bulk dispensers will save hundreds of pounds of plastic.
