As I’ve said before, what you name your small business is very important to your success. Prospects and customers need to know what you’re about without you having to explain each and every time.
This topic came to light recently during the tragedy of the tsunami. Many small businesses found themselves in a conundrum. Should they change their company name from “tsunami whatever” to something else? Who wants to forever be tied to a major world crisis?
It’s a tough call. It’s expensive to change your company name — new stationary, new bank info, customer notification. The list could go on and on.
So what’s the answer? Well, only you can decide what is best for your business. If you’re just starting out, take some thoughtful time to think through what you should name your company. If you’re stuck with a name that means something other than what you’d like to represent to your customers, it’s time for a change.
