If you watch this morning’s Today Show, you’ll get a look at NBC’s “mean green steaming machine”. They’ve put together a hybrid news truck, with roll-out solar panels and wind turbines powering all the electronics. The system runs on three, deep-cycle batteries that use less then 20 amps, compared to the typical 60 amps needed for a satellite truck. Interestingly, the hybrid cost the network $100,000, while the normal truck ranges in the $500k – $1million range. The truck is heading out right away to be part of the Pennsylvania Presidential primaries.
