Shopping for products while on the go has just gotten a little easier, at least if you have an Android-powered handset with you. This week the search engine powerhouse announced the release of its latest Android app, Google Shopper.
The app provides voice search along with the usual shopping tools you’d find in the desktop version of Google. The difference here is that users can also use the built-in camera functionality to snap a photo or scan a product barcode and through the app find listings for the product. Could this be an app that retailers either love or hate? They could love the business it will bring, but no retailer is going to be happy if consumers take a scan and then order the product cheaper online. Of course, time will certainly tell!
A Little World For Finding Your Phone
There are seemingly useless apps that can actually turn out to be not so useless. The Little Worlds Studio app Where is My Phone is just such an example. This iPhone app is actually one of the top five paid apps in several European nations, including France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Not bad for an app that basically makes pig grunts, burp sounds and explosions.
The twist with this latest version is not that the app has added three new voice ringtones, features an upgraded navigation system or has increased the volume for 30 of the ringtones. The twist is that this app will let you find your phone without having to dial to hear it ring, and instead let’s you simply whistle! In fact, one of the other advances is that the app has increased the whistle detection frequency as well.
So while the sounds may not be exactly the most professional, this app can come in handy for those times when you can’t actually dial your own number to find your phone you can take a cue from the movie To Have and Have Not, “You know how to whistle, don’t you, Steve? You just put your lips together and…blow.”
Non-Partisan App Says Hello
Have a problem with your elected officials? Don’t pull out a pen to write them a letter, instead pull out the iPhone or iPod Touch and use this free app. The Hello Washington app allows users send the POTUS or Vice President an e-mail, find out who their representative in Congress is and even send them an e-mail. The app further lets users join a discussion group – or start one – plus it has bios on those in Congress, as well as offering a chance to see all the Bills that are being debated and who sponsored each one. A government of transparency indeed!
Apps to Get Visionary Way to Find a House
While the housing numbers remain bad, there are apps that could help your house hunting. This week Visionary Apps founder Dan Burrus announced his latest brainchildren, the new Complete Realty Suite for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. These new, and more importantly free to consumers, apps are part of a suite that includes three unique tools, including Complete Foreclosures, Complete Homes and Complete Rentals to help consumers find hundreds and even thousands of listings… with 1.6 million listings nationwide per app.
