There is no denying that at this point Apple’s iPhone has a lot of apps. When the ad says, “there’s an app for that,” they’re not really bragging – not that the company doesn’t deserve to brag a bit. They’ve earned it. Apple created a phone that could run apps very well, and more importantly made it easy enough for developers to create apps.
Soon, Apple might have to share that market with some of its rivals. While there are plenty of apps for the BlackBerry and other smartphones, even the Palm Pre at this point, the biggest threat to Apple’s dominance might just come from Google’s Android handset. Since launching in 2008 there has been a steady supply of apps for the Android device, but nothing like the iPhone.
However, next year the company might bring out a true Google Phone, with rumors abound that it is called the Nexus One. The company is also working on various other programs, and one that takes the concept of cloud computing very seriously – where apps and programs run remotely via the Internet. And with the arrival of 4G networks on the horizon, which would really make cloud computing take flight, mobile apps could make their way even higher in 2010.

This free app is available now from the Apple App Store for the iPhone.
