It always seems as if I’m forgetting something. I actually have an exceptional memory, and as long as I pay attention I can remember conservations vividly, can retrace my steps when in a strange city and generally don’t forget where I put my keys. But because like many people today I’m always a bit rushed trying to do more than the day allows, I end up needing reminders. It isn’t a matter of actually “forgetting,” it is a matter of not realizing it is time to do the next thing.
So maybe Mesron, the new mobile reminder service from Elementool.com will help nudge me. While calendars and day planners are great, the problem is that many users – like this reporter – seldom pull them up. Instead, this tool lets users sign up at the Mesron.com Web site to create a list of scheduled reminders, where text messages can be sent to remind you. New members are given five free messages to test the system out.
I like the sound of this, but there are a few issues. For one, I don’t personally pay for a text message plan so that’s potentially a deal breaker for me, and then there is the fact that sometimes it might be easier to just write down the to-do list rather than going to a Web site. But I could see this working very well for assistants who manage their employer’s time, especially if said employer travels. This ensures that the assistant can get those important details to the boss – even if the boss can’t answer the phone, yet can receive text messages. For that use, I see this as that extra boost to getting the reminders delivered!
New iPhone Apps for Technical Industry Professionals
There are plenty of specialized tools for engineers and architects, but now a new set of tools will help engineers from their iPhone! Software developer Marc Schulman of MultiEducator has been creating Apple applications for decades and he has now branched out into the app space with the new Formulator Series, a unique line of apps designed, programmed and packaged for architects, builders, carpenters and civil environmental, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic engineers.
Packages for individual Formulator apps for specialty disciplines are now available for $4.99 to $6.99, and these include about 100 of the more commonly used formulas and graphics. Professional packages are also available from $9.99 to $19.99, and include full requirements of the professional regulations, and capture codes. These apps include the formulas, graphics calculations, federal and state regulatory codes and industrial codes. These are available from the Apple App Store.
After Hours Apps of the Week: Starz Uses iPhone to Promote New Series
Today, cable TV viewers can relive the glory that was Rome with the new series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, a reportedly gory and graphic series that is already getting its share of controversy. But cable channel Starz is actually embracing all this with a new iPhone game and motion comic that are available from the iTunes storefront. There is even an official “Spartacus” workout – we won’t ask – that is available as a free download from the Apple App Store – it was designed by Men’s Health fitness experts to get you into fighting shape. You know, for those who need to take part in gladiatorial games for a living.
