With Thanksgiving behind us we think the next best thing to apple pie is saving money with the Apple iPhone. And if you’re avoiding the stores this weekend, consider staying in and renting a movie instead – and here is a way to do so cheaply.
Neese Products has released its new Red Box Free Rental Promo Code app for the iPhone, and this $0.99 app is designed to let you save money by obtaining free DVD rentals at participating kiosks. Codes are updated twice daily and the app even offers a ranking system to ensure the validity and usefulness of each promo code.
Basically, consumers can download the app at the Apple App Store and then use it for free DVD rentals at the Redbox self-serve kiosks. While the movie selections vary, can you really put a price on a free rental – actually you can, it’s called free!
Holiday Weekend Apps:
Fit or Fugly – This one pretty much speaks for itself. Given that this is a week with more feasting than fitness, you might want to hold off putting the Fit or Fugly app to the test unless you were cagey enough to take a pre-Thanksgiving photo of yourself, which you post and allow others to judge for themselves. Users can download the app, upload a photo and let the word decide while using Twitter and Facebook to promote the photo. One lucky individual will even win an iPhone 3GS if they’re deemed the most fit.
Everytrail Bike Computer – And speaking of fitness, maybe you can work off some of your indulgences this week by hitting the bike. But you don’t need a fancy bike computer to tell you speed and distance if you have an iPhone. Everytrail.com has released this app, which provides speed and distanced based on your iPhone’s GPS functionality. It even contains other GPS-based features to show the route you took.
Star Wars Trench Run – “Use the force Luke,” those immortal words encourage the young up and comer Luke Skywalker in the climatic scene in Star Wars and might seem right at home with this app for the iPhone. Based on the favorite scene from the movie, you’ll get to pilot your X-Wing fighter in an attempt to out run enemy Tie-Fighters while avoiding Darth Vader, the black-suited villain himself. Nothing beats taking out the Death Star single handed, and doing so without sacrificing poor R2 in the process! The Star Wars: Trench Run app is available from the Apple App Store for $4.99. May the app force be with you.
That’s it for this holiday edition of the Mobile App Round-up. Be sure to check back every Friday for the latest from the world of mobile apps.
