Hosted PBX systems can give small businesses the best of both worlds when it comes to their phone systems – lower costs and more high-end features. However, until now you pretty much had to take the service and the equipment offered by any one provider as a package.
Virtual PBX recently announced that they will be the first hosted PBX provider to allow users to mix-and-match a VoIP service and equipment to best meet their needs for features and pricing. Clients can also choose either VoIP calls for cost savings or traditional phone service (PSTN) for calls to landlines or cellular phones (calls sent directly to landlines or cell phones over the PSTN are typically better quality, but more expensive), or enable both types of service and let the system automatically send calls via the most appropriate method.
“Conventional hosted PBX services send all calls over the standard phone network, whether to land lines, cell phones or even VoIP phones,” said Paul Hammond, CEO of Virtual PBX. “Meanwhile, hosted IP-PBX suppliers usually require use of their own proprietary network, phones, adapters and softphone clients to send calls to VoIP phones. Virtual PBX’s ability to marry a traditional hosted PBX with the delivery of calls over both PSTN and VoIP services brings an important new level of interoperability and cost savings to the telecommunications industry.”
The company’s first implementation, available now, works with any solution that is fully SIP-compliant and uses North America Numbering Plan (NANP) phone numbering for destination identification. This approach will interoperate with Gizmo5’s popular Macintosh and Microsoft Windows VoIP software, giving Virtual PBX clients a free softphone while competitors charge for PC clients.
By opening up their service to operate with softphones from other providers like Gizmo5, Virtual PBX hopes to ultimately give richer service to its clients by giving them access to more features but still saving overall on their less expensive VoIP technology.
