Breaking it down by age, the National Retail Federation survey reveals that shoppers aged 25-34 will spend the most — $151.42 on average, followed by 35-44 year olds, who will spend $147.30; 55-64 year olds, who will splurge to the tune of $138.14; and 18-24 year olds who will part with $137.73 for their moms.
And, in one more bit of Mother’s Day trivia, once more compliments of Floramex, the earliest Mother’s Day celebrations can be traced to the spring celebrations of ancient Greece in honor of Rhea, wife of Cronus and mother of the gods and goddesses. In Rome, the most significant Mother’s Day-like festival was dedicated to the worship of Cybele, a mother goddess.
