For those whose lives or practice is touched by Match Day, I hope it was a happy day.
I learned something in my local paper – couples can apply together, so they can stay together. The phenomona of the trailing spouse being the husband is no longer unusual, and residency programs and practices recruiting physicians are adopting to this.
If your practice is recruiting a women physician, just as with males you should be cognizant of the work or school opportunities for the trailing spouse. You have a network in your community – call on people, circulate a resume (wth permission, of course), and make introductions. A large part of the decision making in accepting an offer will be on what the spouse will be able to do with their life.
There are – of course – websites for “medical spouses“, including at least one magazine.
