One thing about the internet that we all need to remember is that nothing ever goes away. Case in point, here’s a post I made to a discussion list about metrics in 1997. Yes, 12 years ago! When I search my name on Google (commonly called a vanity search), that post currently displays on the third page of the results. It’s moved around over the years, but always stays in the top 100 results.
As the internet becomes more integrated with all of our lives, it’s important to not only manage the brand of your small business, but to also manage your personal brand. If you don’t do it, someone else will. And, as usual, Anita Campbell over at Small Business Trends comes to the rescue to help you out. Anita asked her readers to share their best personal branding tips and she compiled them into a handy Personal Branding Report (pdf) you can download.
One other resource you’ll want to check out is Dan Schawbel’s Personal Branding Blog where Dan shares all sorts of great tips about managing your personal brand. Dan’s book Me 2.0 is also an excellent resource you should have on your bookshelf. It will provide you with a four step process for managing your brand online.
