The “About Me” page is a place on eBay that any eBay seller can tell the community about themselves. It also happens to be one of the few places where eBay allows links to the outside world. eBay’s policy regarding links on the “About Me” states:
You may link to your own Web store or Web site.
Here is the link policy page for eBay’s About Me pages (be sure to read the ‘additional information’ fine print section).
It’s widely believed that few buyers ever pay much attention to or visit the “About Me” pages of the seller. That is probably true…. unless they’re given a reason to! eBay does allow links to your About Me page within auction listings. So drive your auction shoppers to your About Me page by placing some important information there.
For example, you might have a shipping policy that describes such things as combined shipping and expedited shipping options. Instead of placing it within your listings, put such a policy on your About Me page. Then place a link to your About Me page in your eBay listings (which will take them to the policy). While on the About Me page, the visitor will have access to your outbound link going to your website. Get the picture?
If you’re selling items on eBay as your home-based business and also have outside sales channels, this is one way to get traffic to your website using eBay’s built-in traffic and also stay within eBay’s rules.
