I’ve been thinking a lot about leadership lately.
This is partly because over the last year I’ve had a chance to watch several managers – with widely differing styles – and I’ve become intrigued in what works and what doesn’t work.
But it’s also because a lot of us who own our own businesses – or just plain work for ourselves – don’t have many opportunities to study or practice leadership. So what may is a natural career path for those who work for larger companies (e.g., up through the ranks or lower, middle, and upper management) isn’t as available to us.
And of course, as all the world watches our presidential campaign this fall, the question of what kind of people make the best leaders will be a big one.
I’m going to dig around in books, journal articles, and web sites for information about leadership — good styles, bad styles, ways to develop it, ways to salvage it if you mess up.
But I’m actively soliciting comments from my readers, too. What kind of leaders do you like? What kind drive you crazy? And what’s the best way to brush up on your own leadership skills?
Let me know your thoughts.
