Yesterday I was pretty busy and right in the middle of doing my usual 12 or so different things at once, the phone rang. It was a fast talking woman from Yahoo! Search Marketing (YSM). Once she had my attention, she literally began talking non-stop without pausing long enough for me to say anything.
One sentence ran into another, and another, and still another, and finally I just set the phone down because I had something going on elsewhere in the house. I came back about 3 minutes later and the woman was still talking! No joke, she had never stopped talking long enough to realize that I wasn’t even present.
She was trying to sell YSM’s managed PayPerClick programs where a YSM team does the keyword research and ad writing for you. She finally paused long enough (probably to take a breath) for me to tell her I wasn’t interested.
On a good day and with a more refined approach on her part, I might have been interested in at least hearing about it. If you’ve read this blog, you know that I’m a big fan of outsourcing such work when it makes sense to do so. With a home-based business that has many entities, I can only do so much. And doing one’s own keyword research and ad copy with YSM is somewhat of a time consuming beast.
However, it would have helped if she would have involved me in the conversation rather than beat me over the over head with a script. We have a Telemarketing expert, Tony Wilkins who blogs here, and I’m pretty certain from reading his blog that this wasn’t the right way to do it.
