Many people say that they don’t see the business value in online
networking via LinkedIn or any of the other web communities.
I’m giving a presentation tonight to a group of women executives
and business owners who are asking how they can best use the online tools. I don’t
believe I’ll hear that they think it’s a waste of time.
But I want to offer just one LinkedIn tip today.
When you are on a profile for a contact in your network, or anyone
for that matter, scroll down and look for the box in the right side of the screen
entitled, *Viewers of this profile also viewed…* and you’ll see a short list of
Here’s what the short list off of my profile looks like. On this
list are people in my network. Some that I know, some that I do not know. But there’s
something connecting us – usually only one other person.
As a matter of practice (and perhaps faith), I scroll down and
look at this list whenever I look at a new profile. I then randomly click on a few
of them to see what the connection is to the original profile I’m looking at.
Often, I discover that there is someone else I want to meet and
talk to about their business. I have found many in this small, little-used area
of LinkedIn. Give it a try and let me know if you find other people in those lists
that spark your curiosity or present a sales opportunity.
