Service Untitled has a great post discussing how Apple Store employees proactively seek out other people who have the attributes Apple wants.
I’m sure you’ve had others hire your employees away from you. Why not “do unto others as they do unto you” and try to hire away those possessing the attributes you want?
If you notice someone who has a passion for customer service, offer them your business card and tell them you might have a place for them. They may not be ready to leave now, but maybe things will be different down the road. If you don’t have an opening now, tell them that but let them know that you will sometime in the future.
