I have learned to laugh at myself – it certainly serves me well, and I think I learned this over time.
Don’t take yourself SO darned seriously! Disarm people around you by your smile and your ability to show that you are human.
I’m off to a monthly networking event, and already I have decided that when I introduce myself, I am going to tell the truth. I’m going to say that I read about this month’s event on a Thursday night at the beginning of September. I scrambled to make this “first Friday of the month” event. After wandering around this college campus, I went home and found out that it was the first Friday of October, not September. Then I will say how ready I am for this presentation.
I’ll do this because it will make people laugh (I suspect) – because it is not a made up story, it is about human error. My intention is that it could put someone at ease who is stressed about some aspect of this networking event.
Having fun, smiling, and laughing are all part “of my business plan” – so find something humorous today and smile…. laugh…. and have a fantastic day. It rubs off on others – and if these others are prospective customers, you will sell more. Email me your successes, and I’ll share them with others.
