and Practice #7 Abundance: Develop a Prosperous Team
simple way of looking at the word prosperity is to think about it as the lack
of something missing. Fostering abundance and developing a prosperous team
takes more than just capital, it requires a leader to create an atmosphere in
which their employees can embrace a positive outlook and seize any opportunity
placed before them. Simply put, this is no easy task.
course the numbers on your balance sheet and how you compensate your staff are
important factors, but great leaders operate in a way that helps their team
focus on assets rather than liabilities. Your company’s assets can include
anything of value, such as ingenuity, time, support and business
these economically challenging times many teams are forced all too often to operate
from a “lack” instead of abundance. This unfortunate situation is frequently
the direct result of leadership’s attitudes and behaviors. For example, how
many leaders that you know say things like—“We do not have to do things fast,
we just need to do them right?” In my corporate career, I had one such leader,
Fred Eydt the President of Medallion Hotels. He was a master at creating
an atmosphere of abundance, which ultimately brought about high values not only
his team, but for our investors as well.
thinking about this practice I have created four types of habits that I refer
to as the 4 m’s of prosperity. Here are examples that will help you prepare for
the activities below:
Have a day each quarter where you and your staff do a community project
together like working in a soup kitchen.
Have a clear operating budget that you review with your team each month.
Provide organized training classes in those areas that will improve sales and
Brainstorm “out there” ideas for how to connect to more customers and try one a
messages I am sending to my staff that may create a lack vs. an abundance
can I create a more prosperous team atmosphere?
Discuss the 4 m’s and brainstorm new habits the team can adapt to
create a more abundant atmosphere and profitable operation.
Choose 3 ideas and create a plan to implement them in the next 30
