You might be familiar with the ‘Open Directory Project.’ Basically, it’s a human-edited directory of the web. I’m an editor for a really small part of it…well, I was. Looks like my editorial rights have been revoked due to inactivity. Whoops! Just applied for reinstatement. Anyway, the part that I was editing was a local business and economy section. I liked doing it because it made me pay closer attention to the small businesses that are near my home. When a new one went in, I’d prowl the web, looking for their site. Or I’d go talk to the owners and find out if they were listed online.
One company that went into a local storefront last year was Kreamy Soaps. Words can’t describe how good their shop smelled! They had more soaps than you can imagine and they were all handmade and at reasonable prices too. At least, $2 a bar seems reasonable to me. And the bars lasted a long time too. You’d think handmade soap would wither away quickly, but these didn’t. Well, I noticed a couple of weeks ago that they were moving out of their storefront–going out of business. I was BUMMED! This is a business that I really wished could have stayed alive. Especially with the Christmas season coming on, it seemed like they threw in the towel too early. I don’t know the owners at all–I just love their soap. So today I remembered that I’d added their website to the ODP a while ago. I looked them up and it seems they’re still alive, just doing business online. I’m pretty excited!
So, like I said, I don’t know the Kreamy Soaps people at all…never met them. But I love their soap. If you need a good stocking stuffer this holiday season, consider a bar or three of their handmade, all natural soap. It’s good stuff! Be sure to check out the Lemongrass soap… 🙂
