Out of 67 countries, and 3.6 billion square feet of LEED certified buildings in the world, the absolute largest green building is the 806,000 square foot distribution center that ProLogis built in Illinois for Kraft. Motion detectors that will turn off the lights automatically when a room is empty have been installed throughout the facility. The detectors alone are expected to cut electricity usage by 60%. A full 98%, or 1125 tons, of the construction materials were recycled, and all wood used in construction came from sustainable forests, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Inside, an energy efficient ventilation system was installed, while the furnishings and carpets are made from recycled materials.
