You would think the following goes without saying, but apparently I am wrong about that because I ran across it just this morning.
What I am talking about is letting your politics slip into your business. Don’t do it. Period. No matter which side of the political aisle you favor, you can bet that a significant percentage of potential customers prefer the other side.
This morning, I clicked onto a Web site of someone with whom I needed to talk. There, in no uncertain terms, I found — in addition to many fine components of his business — his politics, hanging out for everyone to see. His message was anything but subtle. Eeeuuu! It was a turnoff.
There’s a restaurant not far from where I live that plasters its politics all over the walls and tables. I guess if you favor the owner’s politics, then you don’t mind eating there, but I think that if you prefer the opposite political team you probably don’’t return there after one visit.
Why on earth risk turning away customers for something that has zero to do with your business? You’d think anyone trying to make a living would understand this, but I guess that’s not true.
Are you guilty?
