“Lose this information and you could lose your company.
by Karen Cheney
Think about the words and data that march across your computer screen every day. How important is that information to you? Twenty years ago, such so-called ‘intellectual property’ represented only 20 percent to 30 percent of a company’s assets, while facilities and equipment accounted for the rest. Today, intellectual property is 80 percent or more of a company’s worth. If you lost that information — and it probably makes you shiver to even think of it — you could lose your business.
‘Information security is like locking the door or having sprinklers and insurance,’ says Jim Blasingame, creator and host of the nationally syndicated weekday radio/Internet talk show, The Small Business Advocate. Yet many companies are still leaving the door ajar. Last year, nearly half of small businesses experienced security problems, with 83 percent of them losing money, according to a recent PricewaterhouseCoopers survey. ”
– In this case the “Brain” isn’t you but your computer systems. All businesses seem to use computers in one way or the other and not paying attention to keeping them safe can put you out of business. Everyone be careful out there… -ed.
