There’s a line from the movie “Used Cars” where the salesman tells the prospective buyer “Just get into the car!” thinking that a test drive would help close the deal.
It’s an old sales axiom to let the customer feel the merchandise. That’s true for blogging too. The best way to understand what blogging is all about is to start blogging.
If you merely want to get your feet wet without making a financial commitment, the easiest way to do it is by setting up a Blogger.com account. It’s free.
While I don’t feel Blogger’s platform is robust enough for business needs, at least it get’s you in the game. You will most likely feel awkward and unsure of yourself at first, but that’s as it should be. The first time you drove a car was awkward was it not?
If you already have a website, after you begin to get comfortable with the medium, consider linking the blog to the site in some fashion. After you begin to gain confidence, let me then suggest you switch to a more robust platform. There are many, but some I recommend are Typepad, Movable Type, and WordPress.
Typepad you can set up yourself. The other two might require someone with technical expertise. If you want to meld your blog into the overall look and feel of your site, the latter two would be the best options. If that’s not a concern, Typepad would be a good choice.
So, get in the
car blog, start the engine, engage the transmission, put your foot on the gas, and take it for a spin. The road is clear ahead and it’s a good day for a drive. Enjoy!
