I stumbled across this website called Jobster. At first it looks like most sites – put in your job keyword and city. But then you see a couple more features…
They feature comments from people – find out about what it is like to work at a company. This is a great idea. I wonder though, who is spending the time to comment on this site? I know that when I worked inside I would not have taken time out to write about my company on some job site. But on the surface, it seems like a cool feature. And perhaps they are building a community that makes you WANT to participate.
Jobster lets you explore people and companies using tags – right on. And I like that Jobster shows the most popular search and those that are declining in popularity. Some results are kind of strange, for example, the search term "boo" had declined by 53% when I looked (made me want to search for boo to see what came up). As companies go, Amazon was declining. Snapvine was increasing in popularity. To some degree, these things are self reinforcing (like Technorati rankings). I wonder how many people clicked on Snapvine just to see what the fuss was about. Guilty.
I also like that they use their own tools well. If you look at the jobs page for Jobster, they have lots of employee comments about the company. They, we, someone, is aksing a lot about what lunch is like…. That’s puzzling because we generally control that aspect of our day. If we are a cheapskate at Boeing, we will likely be a cheapskate at Jobster. The responses are fun to read anyway and lunch IS a very important part of the day.
I don’t know what the differences are for people posting positions, as I did not go through that process, but I did check out what searching for a position was like. They have the traditional search if that’s what you are comfortable with (positions and places) or you can search by a lot of other terms and in a few ways. Play around.
Overall, it is a comfortable and friendly site – seemingly much better than the average monsters and such. Hip. I don’t know whether they have the jobs your are look for, but it is certainly worth giving it a try.
And they have a blog.
A "with it" job site – it is about time! Check it out.
