I just read a story in the SF Chronicle that the next upgrade of iTunes will include the ability to download podcasts. I’m still convinced that this medium is taking off. I was at the Small Biz Marketing Summit this past weekend and quite a few people were talking about podcasting and starting their own business-related shows. I used my iPod to catch up on a class I missed and was able to download to my mini. It was convenient and easy. Watch for this to be a very powerful way to deliver content about your products and services.
“Apple is making a foray into podcasting, a new form of personal digital communication that it indirectly helped start.
The term podcast, a combination of iPod — Apple’s popular digital audio player — and broadcasting, surfaced in September.
Podcasts are recorded audio programs that people can subscribe to for free. So whenever new podcasts are posted online, those files can be automatically downloaded to a computer and transferred to a portable music player.
Many podcast subscribers already use the iTunes software, along with a third-party program, to find, download and transfer the shows to their music players. But Apple is designing iTunes to handle all of those functions.”
