As always, I like to let my readers know about networking events in the area worth knowing. Next month The San Francisco Book of list will feature it´s annual reception and networking event honoring the top Bay Area business leaders appearing in the 2007 Book of list. Below is basic info on the event which I hope those of you in the area will attend. I attended this event last year, thanks in part to my buddy Colin Patterson who managed to alert me to this party and boy was this event swanky. Here´s my account of last year as I remember it (I was pretty tight by the end of it) as well a s some tips to keep in mind before attending
First while this isn´t a black tie event, it is a business formal event. So if you are planning on attending, I would recommend a business suit (tie optional). I´ve dusted off my Armani tux for the occasion because while I don´t generally where suits, there is something to be said for wearing Armani. There´s just no way anyone can look bad in one. Next be sure to bring plenty of business cards/postcards (in an earlier column I suggested having postcards made up thru Vistaprint.com for distribution at these events instead of business cards. But either will work well. Post cards are great for giving more info on your services without overwhelming the prospect).
Because the event will feature some of the top business leaders in the Bay area you´ll need to have your game face on. This is the BIG LEAGUGE guys. So you need to be very polished when introducing yourself. Practice a 1 minute presentation before the event so that you´ll be able to clearly and concisely describe your services to the prospect. If they are really interested they will probe you for more information. Next, be prepared to relax and have fun by all means go hungry. This event featured some of the most delectable advertisers from local restaurants. It´s a great way to sample the food of a restaurant without actually dining for next to nothing. I was incredibly bloated by the time I left the event last year because I sampled so much food. And the forget about long lines to order a cocktail, the wait staff were not only friendly but they were some of the fastest bartenders I´ve ever experienced. All in all this is an event that can´t be missed. I hope to see you all there.
