So I thought I would share my newest goal with you, my readers, so that I can feel as though I have to do what it is I say that I am going to do.
Lately I find myself working every day of the week during every available hour. I’ve been working on a fairly large project for a fairly large company and the time commitment has been much more than I normally put into a job.
A few months ago I said that I was going to take one day a week off, and that day would be Saturday. It’s the day we go to breakfast as a family. We go to the park, or a festival, or we do something together like hang out at the beach. For a while I would do these things, come back for naptime and then work while everyone rested. But then I got burned out and told my family I was going to take Saturday off.
Then I checked an email.
Then I fixed a problem.
Then I answered a call.
From now on, though, I am not going to do this on Saturday. Saturday is my one complete day off. I’m not going to check my work email. I’m not going to fix a problem, and I will not answer a call.
That kind of sounds Dr. Seussish, now doesn’t it? It is true.
I’m going to check in with you through a quick post if I do any of these things.
Any of them.
Even check or read a work email.
Tomorrow, the computer gets put down and I do not pick it up.
Sunday morning is early enough. Everyone needs a day off, right?
And with this, I’m urging you to take one too. If it has been a while since you’ve taken a day off, really off, then do it tomorrow.
