I continue to see the same issues over and over again as it relates to entrepreneurial and independent retailers. So here’s a quick list of some of the biggest issues, proposed solutions and the benefits, all in a simple, condensed format.
The issue: Not doing what you say you’re going to do
The fix: Improve your customer service and follow through
The benefit: Greater loyalty (yes, loyalty can still be had in today’s retail world)
The issue: Rows of products with no visual merchandising
The fix: Create feature areas, tell stories, make a statement
The benefit: Increased awareness for product lines and brands (not to mention increased sales) and solutions for customer needs
The issue: Low Average transaction
The fix: customer engagement and education
The benefit: Increased sales
The issue: Your social media pages have gone without updates for days/weeks/months
The fix: Determine one, yes just one that ‘s most relevant to your business, then commit to updating it once a day for Twitter, three times a week for a Facebook Fan Page
The benefit: Build an ongoing relationship and dialogue with your customers; create immediacy for traffic driving initiatives
The issue: You’re running out of certain products on a consistent basis
The fix: Up the minimums of those products you continually find you’re out of
The benefit: Sales! If you’ve run out, your customers are going elsewhere to find it
The issue: Your store feels like a morgue
The fix: Music baby!
The benefit: An inviting store experience with the right music will cause customers to linger longer, prompting increased sales
The issue: Lack of foot traffic
The fix: Create compelling front windows (make them intriguing); number one don’t? don’t block the view into your store
The benefit: Intrigue = curiosity = traffic
