If you have a home based business, are you devoting enough time to growing that business? Or is your home business almost all maintenance? There is a balance to be struck there. What do I mean by maintenance? Spending time working on things that don’t contribute to the growth or expansion of your business can fall under the category of maintenance. These might be things that, while they contribute to the ongoing operation of the business, don’t contribute to its growth.
While there are certain maintenance activities that will undoubtedly be needed, at what point do those activities interfere with your ability to move further forward? The main business building activity is marketing. In order to grow your business, a certain percentage of your time should be devoted to marketing that business.
Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in your day to day maintenance activities and put off business building activities for later. Sometimes you don’t see the results of marketing and business building activities right away. But they will pay off in the long term. Try devoting some percentage of your time (hopefully more that 10%) to marketing and business building.
