I haven’t found a person yet who’s thrilled at paying taxes, but at least if you need help you can scoot over to the IRS website — IRS.gov — and pretty much find what you need to know. Recognizing that complying with federal tax requirements is not always easy, the IRS has embraced the convenience, accuracy and speed of the digital world to help you understand and meet your obligations.
One of the best resources of all is the availability of electronic tools for filing and paying taxes. The gateway to the many electronic options is found by selecting Electronic IRS on the IRS.gov homepage.
Small business owners can find helpful information at www.irs.gov/efile. Did you know you can e-file Employment Tax Returns, Information Returns, and Income Tax Returns? This is a life saver for busy business owners who wear too many hats and wait to deal with tax issues at the last minute. You can also pay electronically using the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS). It not only saves time but allows advance scheduling of payments, electronic confirmation, and payment records. Instructions are available through Electronic IRS or on www.EFTPS.gov. It’s simple and easy to use.
And while you’re nosing around the website, don’t forget to take a look at the Small Business and Self-Employed One-Stop Resource at www.irs.gov/smallbiz. It has links to a host of tax topics and plenty of educational resources for small businesses just like you.
