Well, I did go home, I did go to AAA, and I found this link. It turns out that an international driver’s license is essentially just a copy of your existing license with a glossy new photo (that you provide) and a copious translation of the information on your license for officers of other countries to read. Sounds like a passport with an international barcode, doesn’t it? It is. My advice is not to waste your money (there’s a $15 fee). Besides, most foreign countries are light-years ahead of us when it comes to public transportation anyway.
