There have been a few debates over the years about whether you should include (or not) a picture of yourself on your famous “About Us” page on your website.
The pro side is that it gives you more credibility and humanizes the experience for your visitors. The con side says it’s much too risky and cites stalking and identify theft issues as validation.
Well, it will come as no surprise to you that I happen to favor the pros. With all the skepticism about doing business with some unknown entity that presents itself as a few catchy words on a screen, a face to go with those words works a whole lot better in helping me get my credit card out.
And don’t use some goofy avatar or caricature (unless that’s your business). Call me old fashioned, but it actually makes me take you less seriously as a business owner.
What do you think? Am I way off base here? Is a “real person’s” image on a web site important to you? Leave me a comment.
