Okay so you know I’ve always been a big advocate of using a public relations strategy to get the word out about your business.
A couple of tips for implementing a PR strategy in your business popped into my email box the other day, offered up by Ann Baker of Publicity Pros.
1. Search and find blogs and tweets about your business or industry and comment on their posts and tweets – and offer to submit a post to a blog where there’s a good fit with your product or expertise (if you have something meaningful to say).
2. Don’t even waste time asking “how high?” when a reporter contacts you. Never, ever decide “I’ll get to it tomorrow, or at the end of the week.” Believe me, by the time you do get to it, that boat will have sailed. Unless you’re a politician’s or actor’s child with a grotesque personal story to tell, you are interchangeable with the next guy, who will have taken your place in the story, a mere heartbeat after you had your chance.
I agree with Ann completely. And here’s a short primer to help you get your PR strategy moving in the right direction. And one of the best books you can pick up on the topic is Six Steps to Free Publicity by Marcia Yudkin. Work through the primer below and seriously consider picking up a copy of Marcia’s book.
