IKEA invites customers to bring their used compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) to IKEA stores for free disposal. Since the CFLs contain a small amount of mercury, they should not be simply tossed out, so IKEA offers a free take-back program via recycle bins in all stores.
Customers are becoming more and more environmentally conscious and increasingly appreciate retailers that also show concern for the environment. Could you offer a place in your store for customers to return bulbs or plastic bags or cell phones?
Particularly during this economic rough patch, anything that increases customer loyalty is an idea worth consideration.
