I had an interesting chat the other day with some folks from Affinion. They have some interesting identity theft related services and are quite knowledgeable about the field. On the one hand, they offer a service called BreachShield which helps companies monitor customer identities to ensure that they are not stolen, and if they are, helps companies notify customers as they are required to do by law. They also recently launched a consumer oriented service called IdentitySecure which tracks your identity and notifies you if anyone has stolen it or is trying to steal it.
It’s sort of hard to explain what IdentitySecure does because it is different from most related services in that it is proactive. You essentially enroll your sensitive information with them and they search the Internet constantly for signs that someone else has that information. They describe it best:
When it comes to protecting your identity, IdentitySecure helps cover all the bases.
We do more than simply provide credit reports or offer access to fraud alert services. IdentitySecure’s extensive benefits combat all the key methods thieves can use to take control of your life. From providing advanced safeguards against financial fraud to giving you more control over your public records, IdentitySecure aggressively prevents and protects against the many forms of identity theft.
But we don’t stop there. We also provide valuable fraud protection services for improved peace-of-mind. And an array of helpful tools and resources designed to help you manage your personal assets more effectively. Add our friendly, highly skilled service team into the mix, and you have a comprehensive program designed to protect and assist you every step of the way.
Interestingly, they shared a question from a recent survey with me. I think consumers are finally begining to understand the danger of identity theft. And that’s a good thing, because now maybe our government might actually do something to try to stem the onslaught of identity theft. But until they do, services like IdentitySecure will become more and more popular.
Here is a question that Affinion asked of 1060 individuals.
