for yet another way to help businesses “go green” before America Recycles Day
this Saturday? Starting today, empty HP print cartridges can be taken to
Staples for HP authorized cartridge recycling.
expanding the Planet Partners print cartridge return and recycling program to
now include authorized retail recycling – starting with Staples – and also is
implementing steps to reduce shipping materials and increase transportation
efficiency. With more than 1,500 Staples locations in the
the HP Planet Partners program expansion offers yet another free and convenient
way for businesses to responsibly recycle HP print cartridges.
cartridge recycling is a seemingly small action that can have a big impact on
the environment. Highlights from today’s announcement include:
Materials Savings: If all ink cartridges returned via in-box
envelopes in 2008 were instead returned in bulk from authorized retail
recycling locations, the amount of shipping materials used would have been
reduced by more than 600,000 pounds – enough to fill more than 15 tractor
Improved Efficiency: Twice as many cartridges can ship in
the same amount of space via bulk retail returns rather than individual
Major Milestones: HP has recently surpassed a goal of
recycling more than 250 million HP print cartridges worldwide since Planet
Partners began in 1991. Also, HP is well on its way of using more than 10
million pounds of recycled plastic in new HP inkjet cartridges this year.
Facility Expansion: To accommodate increased customer participation
in Planet Partners, HP is doubling the size of its inkjet cartridge recycling
facility to more than 80,000 square feet.
