After arriving by ferry from lovely Whidbey Island to the Seattle-side this morning, I noticed a sign on the side of the road with a realtor’s name saying that she has adopted that part of the highway – what a good PR move. Many ferry commuters live on Whidbey Island for the beauty, for less of the “rat race” and many are environmentally focused. Not only is this realtor focused on something that the majority of commuters would be interested in, but it is posted on a very official-looking sign – not a billboard ad. The more I thought about this PR strategy, the more I liked it.
How do you promote yourself and your business? Later today I am headed to a sold-out luncheon where the speaker, Alice Cunningham, who is the co-founder and co-owner of Olympic Hot Tub will be filmed by a local TV news show. Alice has been a speaker at a number of events locally. I heard her speak last year at the Eastside Business Awards. Now I know that she has a secret weapon – local public relations professional Nancy Juetten. Nancy has done a great job in working with her clients to get them seen and heard from. Nancy has some great free resources.
It made me think about the importance of putting a public relations plan together that is a piece of your marketing plan and that ties into your sales plan. Reader ideas requested – please post comments on what you do for publicity to get your name and your business out there.
