I read an article last week entitled ‘Six reasons why most home based businesses fail’. Naturally that title piqued my interest. In reading through it however, I realized that the article might have been titled differently. Every one of the six ‘reasons’ had to do with home business opportunities. Business opportunities that are marketed to people who wish to start a home based business.
Good, profitable home business opportunities are difficult to find for one primary reason: they are usually someone else’s opportunity recycled. Often the home business opportunity is created by someone whose sole purpose is to make money for themselves by marketing the business to others. Unfortunately, they don’t always pay attention to whether the opportunity will have long term viability and profit potential for those people who buy into it.
Aside from that, a home business and an "out of the box" home business opportunity are not necessarily the same thing. You can build your own business (and therefore your own opportunity) as a home based business. So you can create your own ‘home business opportunity’.
If that sounds like work, it is. But even if you find a good home business opportunity, you will have to work hard to create a profitable business out of it. For example, network marketing businesses are often home business opportunities. But only a small percentage of the people who sign on to any given network marketing business will be successful at it. These are usually the people who work the hardest at it.
Whether you build your own opportunity or hook up to an existing home business opportunity, plan to work diligently at the business. Then be prepared to have patience for the results to come to you.
