When you recommend a restaurant or coffee house to a friend, what happens if the place doesn’t quite work out to their liking? The friend probably just shrugs it off and moves on. Your friend likely won’t hold it against you — after all, it’s just a coffee house.
But what happens if you recommend a home-based business opportunity to a friend? Well, that’s a different story. Unfortunately that’s exactly what happens in many Network Marketing (NM) opportunities. Many NM companies actually will instruct you to work your ‘warm market’ – friends, family, neighbors, church members, parent-teacher group, etc. to recruit people into the business.
This mentality has gained NM companies a horrible reputation and has ruined many a personal relationship. And people today are weary of such tactics anyway. Most people can ‘smell’ a NM opportunity when they are approached like that.
A more realistic approach is needed to have long term success in a Network Marketing company. Here are three tips for selecting a Home Based Business NM company
Lead Generation approach – Look for NM companies that have some sort of lead generation process other than working your warm market. If the warm market is their main lead generation process, run the other way!
Marketing Plan – Try to develop a marketing plan that doesn’t involve working your warm market such as advertising in specific places where interested parties might see your ad.
Lead Availability – Some NM companies make leads available to you. This is highly preferable.
A home based business opportunity is not like restaurant or coffee house and should not be treated as such. People who are already interested in the possibility will make much better prospects than friends, family, and neighbors.
