I’m a franchisor who has just hired you as a consultant. What is the first thing that happens?
This is not entirely clear to me. Would you be a legal, operating franchisor looking for advice on building a franchised network, or are you an entrepreneur thinking about franchising a business and hiring me to discuss the potentiality of your concept as a new franchise?
This is mostly important to me because I would want to know what you have done to date, how you arrived at previous decisions, and most importantly (for me and for you), what type of franchise feasibility was or had been performed before I was contacted with this question.
When a franchisor fails there are always identifiable issues that were not properly considered before the venture began. And generally, those issues and the poor decisions associated with them result from successful entrepreneurs rejecting (or at least not acknowledging) that successful franchising requires expertise in franchising NOT just expertise in running their particular business. This is the biggest reason why franchisors fail.
