There’s a restaurant and bar in Lodi, California that is guaranteed to get my business next time I’m in town. It’s called “Gary’s Uptown Restaurant and Bar” and it’s owned and operated by a guy who knows how to get priceless publicity for free.
The owner, Gary Arnold, whose hairstyle is similar to yours truly, offers free and discounted meals to his follicly challenged patrons.
If a customer is completely bald, they eat for free. If they are at least half bald, they get a 50% discount.
Maybe by the time I get to Lodi I’ll qualify for the fully discounted meal!
The great thing about this is all the publicity they received. When word got out they were deluged with calls from all over the world. At one time a search on Google returned 300 references to it. The Associated Press, Fox News, and even Entrepreneur.com covered this story. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Do you think all this publicity is worth the price of a few free meals? I think Gary would answer “Yes” without hesitating.
Sure, not every business will create a publicity winner of this magnitude. But, you never know when a simple idea will get people talking about your business in a big way.
Could your business do something “out of the box” like this that might generate some valuable publicity?
