Two Harvard professors, Rakesh Khurana and Nitin Nohria , have put forth the idea that managers should take a Green Hippocratic oath. Their argument comes from the fact that we make doctors take an oath before we entrust them with our health, business and its management are entrusted with our resources. Managers need to be looking beyond the corporate walls. They need to be considering the far ranging implications that come from their decisions. Business is here to serve the public.
The days of answering only to the shareholders are over.
